FISHKILL – The Town of Fishkill’s new supervisor challenged town residents to take a “more active role in the town’s planning and oversight.” In a swearing in ceremony on Sunday, Robert LaColla also said the new administration will take a regional view on the town’s future and collaborate with its neighbors.

He said he is already working with the new Beacon city administration on a parks and trails initiative and improved water service on the Route 9D corridor and he has begun talks with Fishkill Village Mayor James Miccio and East Fishkill Town Supervisor John Hickman on other initiatives. “There are opportunities in collaboration for growth in tourism, recreation, open space, business development and historic preservation,” he said. “And it is imperative that we take a collaborative approach to planning for transportation and traffic issues.”

LaColla said the town faces “tremendous challenges” as is goes forward. “Our finances are in disarray, our buildings need maintenance, our roads, sewers and water systems need repair. Our phone and computer systems need to be replaced,” he told those attending his swearing in. “we have already begun the work to address these issues.”
